Je Suis Charlie

To Mom and Dad, Hello, as you've probably heard on the news, there is a lot going on in France. On Wednesday morning, twelve people were murdered and a couple were injured after publishing comics that offended religious beliefs. The Charlie Hebdo company had already been threatened and even firebombed in previous years for offending religions with their comics (to the point where some of the more well known artists had policeman body guards). What happened on Wednesday was an act of terrorism as they were trying to scare the citizens of France into following their laws. Not all Muslims, however, should be blamed for this as it was only the fault of a couple extremists. Some of the Muslim faith showed their sympathy and support with France. France has been different since this happened. People have been gathering all over Paris for the minute of silence and other grieving. People all over the world have been following what's been happening here. It concerns everyone because this was an attack against our freedom. In the news they say that this is one of the worst acts of terrorism in France for the past fifty years. In my opinion, the gunmen didn't have the right to punish the artists in the way that they did because France has freedom of speech and they don't have an official religion. I don't think they should have posted the comic, as it was rude and disrespectful, but they were protected by the law and shouldn't of been in danger. From Ryann
